Studio 338, London
How Void Acoustics shaped the sound of Studio 338
Since opening in 2014, Studio 338 has established itself as one of London’s leading electronic music venues. Home to one of Europe’s largest covered terraces, the club has earned a reputation for exceptional sound.
Void Acoustics has been part of that story from the very beginning. Over more than a decade, the partnership has spanned major redevelopment, the devastating fire of 2016, a complete rebuild and continual refinement. Today, Studio 338 stands as Void Acoustics’ flagship UK nightclub installation.
Built through partnership
Void Acoustics first partnered with Studio 338 in 2014 to design the sound system for the venue’s original outdoor structure.
Music and Events Director Dan Perrin, having experienced Void systems at venues including DC10, invited the team to develop a solution capable of delivering high sound pressure levels while remaining within strict environmental noise limits.
The resulting installation impressed the Studio 338 team, with Dan Perrin praising Void’s ability to “get the very best from what is, from an acoustic standpoint, an outdoor arena in Zone 2 of London.”
The success of the original installation led Studio 338 to redevelop the terrace into the £3 million Atrium Terrace, with Void once again selected to design the sound system for the new permanent structure.

Rising from the ashes
Just weeks after the Atrium Terrace opened, a devastating fire destroyed much of Studio 338.
Rather than simply replacing what had been lost, the rebuild became an opportunity to rethink the venue from the ground up. Working closely with the Studio 338 team, Void designed a completely new audio experience tailored to every space. When the club reopened in October 2017, it did so with a system engineered to match the ambition of one of London’s most respected nightlife destinations.

Continuously refined
The partnership did not end with the reopening. In 2023, further acoustic improvements were introduced under the direction of Technical Manager Larry Field to reduce reverberation created by the venue’s extensive glass construction. The acoustic treatment allowed the existing Void system to perform at an even higher level, demonstrating that exceptional sound depends as much on the environment as it does the loudspeakers themselves.
Today, every area of Studio 338 has been engineered around its intended purpose. On the main dancefloor, striking Air Stream DJ monitors form the visual centrepiece of the DJ booth, with Stasys 218 DJ monitor subwoofers positioned beneath them to deliver powerful low-frequency monitoring. Above the dancefloor, flown Air Motion loudspeakers work alongside a lower bank of Arclite loudspeakers to provide consistent coverage across the room, while Stasys X V2 subwoofers beneath the stage deliver the venue’s low-frequency foundation. Additional Stasys 118 bass reinforcement and Cyclone 10 delay loudspeakers complete the main room system.
Elsewhere throughout the venue, dedicated systems ensure every space has its own identity. The upper balcony is served by Cyclone 10 loudspeakers, the side room features a four-point Air Vantage system with Stasys X V2 bass reinforcement, the upstairs bar is equipped with Airten V2 loudspeakers, while the upstairs main room combines Tri Motion loudspeakers with Stasys 218 subwoofers.
More than ten years after the partnership began, Studio 338 continues to evolve, with Void Acoustics remaining an integral part of one of the UK’s most recognised nightclub sound systems.
Larry Field, Technical Manager, Studio 338“Having worked with Void Acoustics for many years, they are always innovative and supportive towards the need to improve. The sound quality is unique, iconic, and truly steps up. Void came alive in Studio 338 once the treatment was complete; my acoustic modelling panel designs paid off. Investment in acoustic treatment is an extension of any sound system, and it’s important for people to see how the surroundings also become a part of the sound system.”
