Void Experience Thoughts on the Pro Audio Industry

From nightclub culture to design-led spaces, and why a brand’s past doesn’t have to define its future.

I’m in Colombia this week, in Medellín, a city that spent years reinventing itself, not by forgetting its past at all, but by building something meaningful and powerful on, on top of it. The city has become one of the most important cultural hubs in Latin America, and they’ve done that through focusing on music, fashion, design, and hospitality, not getting their past.

There’s a real confidence in what Medellín is becoming, and I think there’s something in that for brands as well. You can be known for something, you can have a reputation, but that doesn’t mean that’s what you’re always going to be known for. There’s a lot of echoes of this story with Void.

We’ve spent the last 25 years being the nightclub guys, the sound system culture brand that does things differently. And that’s true, but we’ve built something very different on top of that. The last 10 years, we’ve become a real serious player in the hospitality space, in venues that care about design aesthetics, in not just hotels and bars and restaurants, but in fashion hubs. And other creative spaces.

And I’m here at the design show in Medellín, and I can tell you that audio can very much fit in with high-end design.
