Modern sound for a 300-year-old landmark with Void Acoustics

Situated in downtown Budapest, Kiosk is an iconic restaurant and event space that blends the charm of a century-old building with the vibrant energy of the city’s contemporary dining and nightlife scene.

Located within a 300-year-old Piarist building, the venue is shaped by high ceilings and stunning architecture. Still home to the remains of an ancient Turkish bath hidden beneath its kitchen, Kiosk has built a reputation for hosting a wide variety of events, from cocktail parties and corporate gatherings to dining experiences and nightlife events.

In 2024, Kiosk decided to expand its existing audio system into its main hall to accommodate the growing variety of events hosted at the venue. With a capacity of 300 people, the venue required an audio system capable of adapting to multiple purposes. To achieve this, Kiosk turned to Void Acoustics and trusted integrator Erlatech Kft for a solution that matched both the venue’s visual and acoustic requirements.

From restaurant to event destination

As part of a historic structure, Kiosk presented a unique challenge for any development work. Like many heritage buildings, the venue featured minimal acoustic treatment, making it difficult to deliver clear and even sound throughout the space, particularly at higher volumes.

Kiosk had previously worked with Void Acoustics at another venue, Terem, and was eager to redeploy four Air Motion loudspeakers, Xair subwoofers and amplifiers into its current space. However, the venue’s unique acoustics required careful placement of the system to ensure consistent coverage throughout the hall.

The goal was to provide rich audio for low-volume background music during dinner service while also delivering full-spectrum sound for high-energy events.

Meeting the acoustic challenges of a historic building

Working closely with Kiosk, Erlatech designed a system that ensured even sound coverage across the venue while overcoming the acoustic challenges presented by the historic building.

The installation delivered full sound coverage at all volume levels, from subtle background music to immersive audio for late-night events. It also maintained speech intelligibility in the bar area, even when the system was operating at higher volumes.

Visual impact meets audio performance

With their distinctive sculptural design, the Air Motion loudspeakers provide an immediate visual focal point within the venue, complementing Kiosk’s historic interior while delivering exceptional sound throughout the space.

Since installation, feedback from both staff and guests has been overwhelmingly positive. The flexibility of the system has enabled Kiosk to operate successfully as a multi-functional venue, supporting everything from corporate events and cocktail parties to weekend DJ sets.
