Located in the vibrant Kings Cross district of Sydney, Australia, Kings Cross Hotel is a multi-level hotel with a pub, bistros, sports bar, night clubs and is also used as an events space. With a capacity of more than 1,000 guests across its six floors, the multipurpose venue opted for an installation of Void Acoustics sound systems to transform one its levels into a nightclub destination.
From theatre to nightclub
The owners of the Kings Cross hotel set out to transform one of the building’s levels into a vibrant new nightclub. Their vision was to create a venue with pristine audio and striking visual appeal, a place that would leave guests with a lasting impression. The goal was to achieve true club grade sound quality while adhering to strict urban noise restrictions and ensuring complete sound isolation from the rest of the hotel.
The main challenge lay in delivering powerful low and high frequency performance without disturbing hotel guests or neighbouring businesses. The space, formerly a theatre, required an entirely new acoustic approach, as its existing design was unsuited to the demands of a nightclub environment. To overcome these challenges, isolation throughout the system was ensured through precise acoustic design, advanced mounting techniques, and careful structural planning.
Void Acoustics brings unified, isolated sound
The project was carried out by integrator Beyond Audio Visual, working in partnership with Audio Logistics. Although Beyond AV had worked with Audio Logistics before, this was their first full Void Acoustics system installation.
Recommended for its visual appeal and supreme sound quality, Void Acoustics was the natural choice for the new club. The final system delivered deep, punchy bass from the Arcline 118s, crystal clear highs and mids from the Air Motions, and room filling coverage from the Venu 12s loudspeakers.
We had experienced Void’s sound systems at a few festivals before, but installing one and hearing it at the Kings Cross Hotel was a real pleasure. Beyond AV provided an excellent installation, and with the support of Audio Logistics (Void Distributor Australia), they assisted us from the start of the project, scoping amps, offering technical support, and EQing the system during the commissioning stage.
The sound system within the nightclub received raving reviews from clubber. The Kings Cross project has been an outstanding success, ensuring every guest hears, feels and connects with the music.
