Technically Speaking #6: Extended GLL Library Available Now

Blog

In this instalment of Technically Speaking, we are announcing an extension to our GLL modelling file library, now available via the support section and product pages of our website.

Accurate system design starts long before a loudspeaker is switched on and increasingly begins in prediction software, allowing system designers, consultants and integrators to model real world behaviour during the proposal stage before a product ever arrives on site.

Historically, GLL support has been focused on our touring systems, where demand for predictive modelling has traditionally been highest. This release extends EASE Focus-enabled GLLs to the Air Series, Cyclone Series and Venu V2 Series, while our flagship Incubus and Nexus systems are now available for use in the full EASE 5 environment for the first time, reflecting their intended use in more complex, high-performance installations where detailed acoustic analysis is required.

What is a GLL File?

A GLL (Generic Loudspeaker Library) file is a data package used by EASE 5 and EASE Focus to describe how a loudspeaker behaves acoustically in three-dimensional space. GLLs are based on multiple measurement points and describe how sound radiates from a loudspeaker across frequency and angle, often referred to as balloon data.

When loaded into prediction software, a GLL allows designers to model expected performance within a space, including coverage, directivity, and frequency-dependent behaviour. This supports more informed system design decisions early in the process, helping to assess coverage consistency and determine appropriate sound pressure levels across an audience area.

EASE Focus vs EASE 5 - Understanding the Difference

Developed by AFMG, EASE Focus and EASE 5 are widely used software packages for loudspeaker acoustic prediction, each designed to support different levels of system design and analysis.

EASE Focus is a free-to-use application focused on practical system layout and coverage prediction. It allows users to position loudspeakers within a space, define audience areas, visualise coverage and sound pressure level distribution based on direct sound only. As a result, it is particularly well suited to fast system design, proposal development, and loudspeaker selection.

EASE 5 extends beyond direct sound modelling to support more detailed acoustic analysis. This includes room geometry, surface materials, reflections, and reverberation behaviour, making it appropriate for complex, high-performance installations where a deeper understanding of room interaction is required.

To support the release of these new GLL files, we are also launching a dedicated EASE Focus video tutorial on our YouTube channel. The video provides a practical workflow walkthrough, covering where to download the GLL files, importing a floorplan, placing loudspeakers, and running basic system coverage analysis.
