ダーティバード・キャンプアウト 2021
Dirtybird reignites festival sound with Void Acoustics
Dirtybird Campout 2021 marked the return of one of California’s most recognisable electronic music festivals, with sound quality placed firmly at the centre of the audience experience. Held at the Modesto Reservoir Campgrounds, the event’s Bird House main stage required an audio system capable of delivering exceptional clarity, impact, and consistency for crowds of up to 4,000 people, while maintaining strict control over offsite noise.
To achieve this, production specialists Royal Sound & Lighting once again partnered with Void Acoustics, continuing a long standing relationship built across previous Dirtybird events. For the 2021 edition, Royal introduced Void’s Arcline 8 line array system to the festival for the first time, selecting it specifically for its controlled dispersion, smooth horizontal coverage, and ability to deliver high energy electronic music with precision and musicality.
A complex outdoor sound challenge
As the largest stage on site, Bird House required powerful and evenly distributed coverage across a large outdoor audience area without compromising tonal balance or clarity. At the same time, the festival site operated under strict county enforced noise regulations, making offsite noise control one of the project’s most important technical considerations.
Traditional point source solutions could not provide the level of directional accuracy required for the environment. The system needed to maintain strong output and low frequency impact within the audience area while reducing unwanted spill into surrounding spaces.

“We have specified Void systems at previous iterations of Dirtybird over the years. With the return of the festival post pandemic, we wanted to provide an even better audio experience for everyone attending. Upgrading to Void’s Arcline 8 system was a natural choice.”

Void Acoustics delivered by Royal Sound & Lighting
Working closely with festival organisers, Royal Sound & Lighting designed and deployed a Void Acoustics system engineered specifically for the acoustic demands of the Bird House stage. Flying the Arcline 8 system allowed the team to achieve precise downward control and consistent coverage across the entire audience area, helping contain energy exactly where it was needed.
The result was a smooth and immersive listening experience that maintained clarity and impact throughout the site, even during peak capacity periods.
The Arcline 8 system formed the core of the main stage setup, delivering detailed mid and high frequency reproduction with strong projection and controlled dispersion. Air Motion loudspeakers and Stasys 218 subwoofers added further impact and low frequency extension, while Air Vantage monitors provided accurate and reliable DJ monitoring on stage. Bias Q5 amplifiers ensured consistent power and system control throughout the festival.
“Offsite noise has been an issue in previous years, but we knew it was something Void strives to solve with carefully considered system design solutions. The Arcline 8 system enabled us to fly the arrays and achieve downward facing control in a way point source systems cannot facilitate.”

Powerful results across the festival
The completed system delivered exceptional sonic fidelity across the Bird House stage, providing artists and audiences with a highly controlled yet energetic sound experience throughout the weekend. Performers including Claude VonStroke, Ardalan, Nala, Gene Farris, and Green Velvet benefited from precise monitoring and consistent coverage, while audiences experienced clear, balanced sound throughout the entire performance area.
Feedback from artists, organisers, and festival goers consistently highlighted the clarity, power, and immersive nature of the system, reinforcing the importance of high performance audio within the Dirtybird experience.
Through the collaboration between Royal Sound & Lighting and Void Acoustics, Dirtybird Campout returned with a festival sound system designed not only for scale and impact, but for precision, control, and musical detail across every performance.
