Blending heritage and high performance with Void Acoustics
Camden in North London is known for its eclectic nightlife and, in recent months, Monarchy on Chalk Farm Road has reopened its doors with a new name and a complete venue refurbishment, including a total upgrade to a Void Acoustics sound system.
Formerly known as The Monarch, and where Amy Winehouse once DJed, this popular bar and pub is a stone’s throw from The Roundhouse, the iconic North London music venue. Whilst it may have new owner-operators (AB-InBev) and a fresh new look, the venue remains committed to its music heritage. It is therefore no surprise that a full audio upgrade with a high-end Void Acoustics sound system was central to the refurbishment.
Working alongside London-based integrator AT&C Professional Systems, the brief was to create the ultimate sports-viewing destination in Camden while respecting the area’s music heritage.

A flagship installation for versatility
AB-InBev chose Monarchy as a flagship pilot venue with a wide variety of application requirements, from playback music and TV sound reinforcement for sporting events to live music performances. Coverage and system headroom were important considerations, alongside the desire for a compact distributed system with sufficient performance capabilities for such a music-driven venue.
The extensive refurbishment modernised the venue while retaining a nod to the much-loved local craft beer destination it was before the pandemic lockdowns.
Audio coverage across all zones
Central to the installation are Venu 6 V2 and Venu 8 V2 compact loudspeakers, supported by Venu 112 V2 subwoofers installed in a flown configuration to maximise floor space.
Monarchy also features a small courtyard at the rear of the venue, where IP55-rated Cyclone loudspeakers were installed and carefully controlled to minimise noise disturbance for nearby residents.
Cirrus 6.1 ceiling loudspeakers, alongside Bias Q2 and Bias D1 amplifiers, completed the installation. With Dante available as standard on the amplifiers, integration into the venue’s Dante network was straightforward.
“We opted for a higher-spec Void Acoustics system and have been very impressed with the sound quality and overall performance. We hold live music events regularly and the feedback has been great!”
